The Fundamentals of SEO
In this post, we discuss the different components of SEO and how each of them work together to influence your online presence.
Search Engine Results: Showing Up for Your Audience
Before we break down SEO, we need to explain an aspect that it directly ties into: SER, or Search Engine Results. These are the list of websites (and advertisements — such as text-based “sponsored search results”) that we see displayed on Google, Bing, DuckDuckGo, Yahoo, Brave, etc. after searching for a specific topic. On the surface, observing these search results is one of the fastest ways to gauge your online visibility.
Because information, news, and social media are traveling at light speed and are often packaged up as easily digestible summaries or info bites, this rapid delivery and consumption has shortened our attention spans and conditioned many of us to primarily look at page-one search results. For example, many internet users don’t bother continuing to find results on pages two or three, or tapping “load more” at the bottom of page one on mobile devices.
As a result, the “look at a glance” tendency by many internet users has created a highly competitive environment, with organizations vying to get their websites and advertisements positioned on page one. AI Overviews have also recently become the new norm atop page-one search results, competing with advertisers for impressions and clicks.
SEO: The Key To Online Visibility
Now, the most important concept: The acronym SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization.
Optimization is just another way of saying “tuning up,” “positioning,” or "staging" your website the best you can, so that it can be included in search engine results, ideally as close to the top as possible. This optimization has rules, and NOBLE SEO can help guide you through the process with our SEO Strategy Service.
Think of this as a measurement of your online success, recognition, and even credibility. A real-life equivalent of this would be a real estate agent developing strong relationships with people in a particular area through word-of-mouth referrals, with past clients emphasizing a smooth buying or selling process. Or, from a more standard marketing standpoint, consider a business getting increased visibility within its target community from print ads, billboards, etc.
Finding Your Target Audience With SEM
SEM is the acronym for Search Engine Marketing.
If you are currently reading this, marketing your organization’s website via search is most likely one of your primary objectives. This can be achieved by running paid search ads and building an organic SEO strategy. The SEM landscape is as complex as it is competitive, because consumers only have so much time on their hands, and thus only so many impressions to give. You want your ads to resonate with as many of your target web users as possible to prompt engagement. The best course of action is to develop a clean web tech stack, build a compelling content library, and make strategic improvements to attract the right audience.
